Motorola's Razr Fold Has the Best Battery in Its Class — and the Worst Camera

The first book-fold Motorola to land in Chile packs a 6,000 mAh battery that outlasts every rival, but its three 50 MP cameras can't keep up with Samsung or Huawei at the same price point.

The hardware case is strong — until you shoot in the dark

Motorola's Razr Fold is now available in Chile at an official price of $1,999,990 CLP, making it the brand's first book-fold device and its direct bid against Samsung and Huawei in the premium foldable segment.

The physical experience holds up. The 6.6-inch external screen works as a conventional smartphone without ever forcing you to unfold. Open it and an 8.1-inch internal panel turns the device into a pocket tablet — genuinely useful for document editing, split-screen multitasking, or long-form reading.

Battery is the headline number. At 6,000 mAh, the Razr Fold leads its category outright, ahead of the Huawei Mate X7 (5,600 mAh) and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (4,400 mAh). For founders running back-to-back calls, decks, and Slack threads all day, that gap is real runway — the kind that means you stop thinking about a charger before lunch.

Where the playbook breaks down

The camera system is the honest weak point. Motorola ships three 50 MP rear sensors that look competitive on a spec sheet. In practice, the images lack definition and dynamic range processing that users expect at this price. Night shots lose detail against the competition, and the secondary sensors reveal a clear trade-off: the brand chose battery performance over optical output.

For context: Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold7 — already on sale, with a Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra just announced at the London Unpacked event — jumped to a 200 MP primary sensor alongside a thinner, lighter chassis and a polished One UI software layer built specifically for large screens. Huawei's Mate X7, also available in Chile, pushes an ultra-thin hinge that nearly eliminates the center crease and pairs it with camera hardware that outperforms Motorola's by a wide margin.

In photographic terms, the Razr Fold finishes last in the current Chilean foldable lineup.

Who should actually buy it

The math is simple. If your priority is all-day battery and a large screen for multitasking — reading, media, document management — the Razr Fold is a genuinely compelling option and a functional first entry from Motorola in the book-fold format. If you shoot a lot, especially at night or in mixed light, Samsung and Huawei are still the better tools at this price tier.

Scale.'s take: The Razr Fold is a competent v1 product from a brand that clearly understands what founders and power users need from a device that lives in their pocket all day. Battery anxiety is a real productivity tax, and Motorola erases it. But premium hardware buyers vote with their wallets, and at $1,999,990 CLP, the camera gap is hard to ignore. Motorola needs one more iteration — a sharper sensor and better night processing — before it can claim the top shelf. The bones are there. The software and optics need to catch up.
